About
Samuel showed an eye for creativity and design from a young age, having spent much of his spare time building lego sculptures and drawing whatever was out the window. After taking engineering and graphic design subjects in his senior high school years, it was clear that Sam wanted to combine the two disciplines and found that the industrial design profession sat square in between.
Enrolling in a Bachelor of Design in Industrial Design at the University of Technology Sydney, Sam quickly developed his skills to the point where he was involved in a project at the Powerhouse Museum representing UTS as part of Sydney Design Week 2013, and in 2014 achieved finalist standings in both the Reece Bathrooms Innovation Awards and the Cormack Innovation Awards.
Sam developed his industry skills further by interning in early 2015 at Luxxbox - a furniture and lighting design studio based in Brisbane, and collaborated later in 2015 with sculptural artist Karam Hussein to design a decorative pendant light as part of the annual Workshopped exhibition, the largest running furniture exhibition in Australia.
He has since completed a Sub Major in Marketing Principles, and is currently employed as a student promotional representative for the Design, Architecture and Building Faculty at UTS. Sam's professional approach and passion for design has made him the face of the Integrated Product Design course at UTS (www.youtube.com/watch?v=63Alk5RLC9U). He also stepped into a leading project management role over the course of the UTS U@Uni Summer School Program 2015 as part of the Exhibition Design Team.
Beyond product design Sam has designed multiple mobile applications, winning an app design competition on the 99designs website, and designing the Timeweave mobile app concept (www.timeweave.com.au) for a small startup. Now in the fourth and final year of university, Sam has enrolled in the Hatchery Program, a pre-incubator program for students interested in pursuing entrepreneurial endeavours. He co-founded Construction Cloud (CC) with two other students he met at UTS and is now the design manager at CC. Together the CC team submitted their business plan into the University Startup World Cup Competition and has been confirmed as a top 50 finalist selected from over 4000 universities worldwide.
